Game of the Year List 2024

Earth Defense Force 6
I've been thinking a lot about writing about art lately. I've done it on a decently consistent basis whether just for myself personally or as a piece published onlime that I'm hoping people come across.

Mullet Madjack
How much of this is compulsory. How much of this feels like something I'm obligated to do. It feels like I'm going down a checklist for completion. Did I really care enough about that piece of art if I didn't write about it?

Children of the Sun
Honestly I'm increasingly feeling the opposite, in a way. The feeling of contentnesd that comes with experiencing a piece of art and loving what it managed to accomplish and resting in that afterglow not feeling a need to break it down in a write-up.

Mouthwashing
I love recommending art to people. I love the reaction it can get. I love when friends talk to me about stuff I personally recommended them. I shouldn't need to explain art. Art speaks for itself, right? It feels like as part of this push to monetize every single hobby we have nowadays that I've unfortunately started buying into treating this all like some kind of obligation.

Metaphor
I think what got me started writing about the pieces of art I love the most comes from how intense the feelings I have about art can be, I feel like I need an outlet, and having an outlet is good, I'm not regretting that aspect but im regretting this sort of checklist mentality I'm starting to approach it with.

Dragon's Dogma 2
I wrote out this list to prepare for the end of the year and stared at each entry point, unsure of what to even write, feeling like anything I could write about each of these wouldn't be adequate at conveying what is special about each of these games, that I'd only be able to put out half-hearted summaries. I have personal experiences I can use to drive home the importance that each of these games have for me, but that's a longer project. I already work a full-time job so I can survive so I'm trying to pick my battles as far as that goes.

I Am Your Beast
I think I'm going through a bit of a reset. A bunch in my life has changed this year and I'm adapting to new routines and cycles, so I'm gonna take some time to just play stuff, maybe give comment here and there, write in my own personal journal for myself to organize thoughts.

Sorry We're Closed
Even though I'm not putting words to each title in this list, be assured each one is well worth checking out. Maybe I'll write about some of these at some point. I wanna give myself some space. I was really proud of the video I made this year, but I think the reaction I had of feeling like I needed to immediately work on another isn't good. Another video will still probably happen at some point, but I'm not gonna conveyer belt them out. Here's to a good 2025.

Crow Country
The essence of the big hitters of PS1 survival horror are wonderfully embodied here. The devs of Tangle Tower aptly used their ability to create puzzles to create a horror classic in Crow Country. The recreation of PS1 pre-rendered background aesthetics is spot-on and creates the perfect atmosphere for the story it tells, using clichés of the genre to misdirect the player as the game goes on. Highly recommend playing and then watching a friend play late into the night.
